Jesus wept. John 11:35
Jesus, our empathetic high priest, is a man of sorrows acquainted with grief. Jesus knows our sorrow. The last few weeks have been difficult for many of my friends, loved ones have passed and disease is destroying bodies. I am reminded of the role of Jesus as our high priest. Jesus knows what it’s like to witness the sorrow of his friends. He knows what it’s like to see His friends pass. Yes, Jesus raised Lazarus from the dead. Remember, John the Baptist was not.
For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; Hebrews 4:15a
We have a personal God who can relate to our suffering and our broken hearts. He knows our pain. Since this is true, we our told to come boldly to His throne. As we come boldly, with hope, we anticipate His love and grace. And we know that Jesus is our mediator (he reconciled our relationship with God), our intercessor (he makes requests for us), and he has sent us His Spirit (He’s alive inside of us).
Holy Spirit, heal broken hearts this week. Jesus, as a man of sorrows comfort my friends as they grieve and deliver them from their sadness at the right time. Father, we love you and praise you for your constant involvement in our lives.
